Wearin’O the Green…

Hello all! Céad míle fáilte!

Wearin’ o’ the green, is strangely ironic, because at one time green was known as an unlucky color because it was associated with the “good folk” aka the fairies. And you did not want to attract their attention.  An earlier version of the flag was sky blue with a harp on it, (I think it looks pretty snazzy) and that is still used as the official flag of President of Ireland. In any case, the wearin o’ the green is tradition now, fairies or no!  Now, normally this time of year, I usually have a lot of private gigs- so it’s been hard to invite my friends to come hear me tell…but not this year- I have several gigs that are open to the public!  Woohoo!

It’s going to be a busy couple of weeks- I will be at the Los Angeles Irish Fair (at the Pomona Fairgrounds) both Saturday and Sunday March 8th and 9th. The fair has an incredible line of Celtic entertainment, and more fantastic bands than you can shake a black-thorn shillelagh at. Included at this event are two of my favorite performers- my “partner in rhyme” the Illustrious Mr. Bill Howard who will be performing up a storm, and the very talented “Lord Rusty”, aka Chris Yates, who is not to be missed. (Especially if he’s on his stilts, with a kilt).

Along with this I will also be at the Sixth Annual Celtic Celebration, Friday March 14th, 6:30 p.m onward At the Westwood Presbyterian Church. They too have quite a line up, with dancing and food and much more. 18.00 suggested donation for adults, $10.00 for kids.

I will also be the featured Storyteller at Mai’s Cafe in Ventura, the evening of March 15th, and they too will have music and food on hand, with a suggested donation (I’m not certain how much.) I believe the actual event takes place at..2815 E Main, Ventura, California 93003.

And, I will be helping to lead the 6th Annual St. Patricks Day Parade, in Canoga park again, March 17th, around 1:00 (it’s a Monday this year).  Usually, it’s a Piper, a Priest (St.Patrick dont’cha know) and a Poet (m’self) leading all the kids around a few blocks and the whole thing concludes with some entertainment, speech-a-fying, and prizes and such. Grand fun, and I am honored to be invited back.  So, that’s just a few things I’ll be up to this St.Pats 2008. Please check out my articles..on St.Patrick, and other things Celtic, and Have a grand St.Patricks! (here’s some Irish, from a nifty little website)

St. Patrick’s Day Blessing On You (singular)
Beannachtaí na Féile Pádraig ort!
Ban-ick-tee na fay-lah pwad-rig ort

St. Patrick’s Day Blessing On You (plural)
Beannachtaí na Féile Pádraig oraibh!
Ban-ick-tee na fay-lah pwad-rig or-iv

and I really need to learn this one ;)

Give me the same as the man on the floor!
Tabhair dom a rud céanna mar atá ag an fhear ar an urlar!

Blessings!- True
